About
The Tour of the Rio Grande Bicycle Century is an annual spring cycling tour in New Mexico, USA. It continues a long tradition of cycling in the Rio Grande Valley to riders in the Southwest and beyond. It’s an end-of April ride, which is before the Utah and Colorado cycling season.
The ride is the flattest in the state starting from the Bernalillo County / International Sunport Rail Runner Station off of Rio Bravo Blvd in the South Valley. It then goes south to Los Lunas, Belen and Bernardo where it loops back around. Optional distances are 39, 62, 78 and 100 miles. The 39 and 62 mile can be cut in half if the Rail Runner is taken back to start.
Started in April of 2019 by organizer / owner Michael O. Wieclaw, the ride has become a local favorite with having 352 registrations in its first year. “You can ask anyone that puts on cycling events if it’s easy and they will tell you ‘no.’ But I’m humbled by the support of the New Mexico cycling community.” Says Wieclaw. “I pledge to give a quality and safe ride to participants.”
Take off point is the Bernalillo County / Int’l Sunport Rail Runner Station located at 113 Rio Bravo SE, ABQ. Google Map location, click here.
